
Nagi Dam Bird Sanctuary is located in Jhajha, Jamui district of Bihar, India, is a haven for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers. It is established in 1984 has been recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International due to its significant avian population.
Avian Diversity

The sanctuary hosts over 133 species of birds, including both resident and migratory species. Notably, it supports about 3% of the global population of bar-headed geese, making it a critical site for this species. Additionally, during the winter months from November to February, the sanctuary witnesses large congregations of red-crested pochards among other migratory birds.
Flora and Fauna
Nagi Dam Bird Sanctuary is surrounded by dry deciduous forests and rocky hillocks. The wetland ecosystem supports a variety of dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies, and other wildlife, contributing to its rich biodiversity.

Rail it’s approximately 12 km from Jhajha railway station and 31 km from Jamui railway station.
Air it is the nearest airport is in Patna, about 200 km away. A new airport is also under development in Deoghar, Jharkhand, which will be closer to the sanctuary.
5. Conservation Significance
In 2023, Nagi Dam Bird Sanctuary, along with the nearby Nakti Dam Bird Sanctuary, was designated as a Ramsar site, highlighting its importance as a wetland of international significance.
