😁Hyenas have one of the strongest bite forces among mammals, enabling them to crush bones. Spotted hyenas live in female-led clans, with females being larger and more dominant than males.
😁While known as scavengers, hyenas are also skilled hunters, with up to 95% of their diet from hunting. Hyenas communicate using a variety of sounds, including whoops, growls, laugh. They can digest bones, horns, and hooves, leaving almost nothing behind.
There are four species of Hyenas each with different habits –
- Spotted Hyena 😁😁
Spotted Hyenas are largest and most well-known species found in sub-Saharan Africa are famous for their “laughing” vocalizations. Eats wildebeest, zebra, antelope, and scavenged carcasses. Will consume bones and other tough materials for nutrients.
- Striped Hyena 😁
Striped Hyenas are found in North and East Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. They are smaller than the spotted hyena and has a striped coat. Eats small mammals, fruits, insects, and scavenged remains.
- Brown Hyena 😁
Brown Hyenas are found in southern Africa. They has a shaggy, dark brown coat. They feeds on carrion, small animals, and fruits known to scavenge from lion and cheetah kills.
- Aardwolf 😁
Aardwolf are smallest hyena species. Primarily insectivorous, feeding on termites consuming up to 300,000 termites in one night. Licks them off surfaces without destroying the mound.
